People's first reaction when hearing about another abuse scandal somewhere in the Church is to express outrage, which is a great improvement over years when no one mentioned abuse and it thrived in secret.
Now, however, many Catholics are running behind the times. They demand reforms that already exist in the Church and overlook the new perils to children and vulnerable adults in many different settings. To become part of the real solution, it is crucial to be fully informed about safeguarding issues and to understand survivors' challenges in seeking healing and finding a safe harbor in their faith.
